Event Details

Businesses are changing rapidly amid uncertain times, requiring finance professionals to adeptly and effectively communicate across all levels of their business. However, sometimes even the most technically skilled executives can be limited in their roles, particularly in developing effective working relationships with clients, managers, employees, board members, and other key stakeholders.

Join the CFO RoundTable as we discuss the most critical communication skills necessary for highly effective CFOs. This interactive, half-day workshop, hosted at Bentley University, will present a series of interactive and improvisational exercises and vignettes designed to improve listening and assertiveness skills. You will learn:

  • The best practices in non-verbal and verbal communications, including electronic communications;
  • Reflective listening skills, such as paraphrasing and empathizing;
  • How to give constructive feedback at all levels;
  • How to manage a productive confrontation and conflict.

Learning Objectives:

After this program, attendees should understand how to:

  • Communicate capably with colleagues, peers, boards, clients, and more;
  • Build stronger, more effective working relationships across all levels of their organization;
  • Efficiently and tactfully manage and diffuse conflict and confrontation

Our workshop on Critical Communication Skills will be led by Aaron J. Nurick, Ph.D., Professor of Management and Psychology at Bentley University. Dr. Nurick's teaching and scholarship have been devoted to the application of psychology to management and organizations. Widely published in distinguished academic journals, he is also the author of Participation in Organizational Change: The TVA Experiment (Praeger). He is a recipient of Bentley College's Gregory H. Adamian Award for Excellence in Teaching for his courses on interpersonal behavior in management and organizational behavior and the Joseph M. Cronin Award for Excellence in Academic Advising. He currently holds the Wilder Professorship that recognizes and encourages teaching excellence. He has served in several academic leadership positions at Bentley University including a seven-year term as chair of the Department of Management, chair of the Promotion and Tenure Committee, and was elected as the first chair of the Faculty Senate.

Nurick earned his BS in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a PhD in organizational psychology from the University of Tennessee, and holds a postdoctoral certificate from the Boston Institute for Psychotherapy as well as certifications in mediation and emotional intelligence assessment.
